TVR Modsports Racing 1970 - 1972

The first ever season of motor racing in 1970 with ex-Charlie Blythe MGTS engined TVR Vixen

A very good season with one outright win at Brands Hatch (still with novice cross on my back!) and a few class wins and seconds!

The only person not surprised about these results was Gerry Marshall - a great friend and inspiration to everybody

MGB engines were old hat as far as winning was concerned, even in the late 60's and it seemed that a forward move to a turbo Ford engined Piper P2 would be good.  In fact it was good enough to secure a very good sponsorship deal with W.J.Sims Transport Ltd.

Something drastic had to be done to keep the very good sponsorship deal with W.J.Sims Transport - after two dreadful seasons with the Pipers!

I sold the lightweight Piper and bought the Lotus Elan 26R form Bob Eccles on the Wednesday and started on the second row of the grid at Brands Hatch the following Sunday, never having driven the car. We finished second overall and Mr W.J.Sims was even happier than I was!

I retired from racing in 1978 to concentrate on designing and building my own car designs
